The History Of

Steve & Sue’s

HOW IT STARTED

The founders of Par-Tee Freeze, Steve & Sue Fedele, high school sweethearts from Brockton, MA, met at Gowell’s Homemade Chocolate store as teenagers. Steve later worked as a head candy maker at Hilliard’s Chocolates in Easton, MA. After high school he joined the army, was stationed in Long Binh, Vietnam, from August 1968 to August 1969 and married Sue upon his return. He was discharged as an executive chef and settled in Centerville where he worked as a candy maker for Cape Cod Candies on Main Street in Hyannis. Sue dipped chocolates at night with their baby daughter Stacey beside her in a porta crib.

Steve found an ice cream stand and mini golf course he liked on West Main Street that had only been there for a year. It was 1977, Steve was 28, Sue 26, and their 3 children were 6, 4 and 3 years old. Steve worked nights and weekends at the Par-Tee Freeze, while Sue worked days. In 1989, they completed a full renovation of the mini golf course transforming it into what it is today, Lightning Falls, one of the first adventure golf courses on Cape Cod.

Over the years they purchased and built other businesses including 3 more mini golf courses in Hyannis and Yarmouth. Eventually, selling all the properties but keeping their original location, Par-Tee Freeze, on West Main Street.

TODAY

Steve & Sue’s children and grandchildren have always worked at the businesses from a very young age, and they had always hoped to keep the business in the family when it was their time to take a break. In January 2022 they decided to sell the business to their daughter, Stacey and her husband John Kimball. It was a natural fit as Stacey had worked in the business her whole life and John was ready to move on from his corporate job as CEO of Convention Data Services and reconnect with the business community on Cape Cod. Stacey and John both grew up in the town of Barnstable, graduating from BHS in the late 80’s. Their oldest son Tristan works along side them, continuing the tradition of being a family owned and operated business!

“The torch is gradually being passed to a new generation. We have a great family, great employees, and a wonderfully happy business. We’ve loved every minute with all the young adults we’ve worked with and watched grow. Thank you, Cape Cod.”

Jason A. Fedele Memorial

Scholarship Fund

This scholarship was established in memory of Jason “Jay” A. Fedele, who was killed in a car accident on his way home from work more than 30 years ago. In the tradition of his giving nature and propensity to work hard, this scholarship is awarded to those who work, as well as go to school, and who put “their all” into everything they do.

In December 1989, tragedy struck when Steve & Sue’s 17-year-old son Jason was killed in an auto accident on his way home from his winter job. Everyone loved Jay and his hard-working abilities. He had a kind heart and was very giving. Shortly thereafter the Jason A. Fedele Memorial Scholarship Fund was started. In the tradition of his giving nature and hard working abilities, it is dedicated to those who work, as well as go to school, and who put “their all” into everything they do. Today, over 3 decades later, scholarships are awarded annually to graduating seniors from across the Cape and Islands who work and will be continuing their education. To apply for the Jason Fedele Scholarship, please download and fill out the form, enclose a letter of recommendation from your employer, and return them to Par-Tee Freeze.
